I am a member of the National Association for Professional Organizers (NAPO), and am active in the Nashville Chapter of NAPO. I have a Masters Degree and a National Certification in Professional Counseling. I have counseling experience with marriage, parenting, substance abuse, personal counseling, and play therapy. In my counseling work, my philosophy is not about diagnosis. I focus on finding my clients' strengths and using them to address and fix areas in their lives where they are experiencing difficulty or where they are "stuck". Sometimes there are emotional blocks, and sometimes there are physical and material blocks. A lot of my counseling work involves helping my clients organize their lives and their minds in such a way that they can live happier, more peaceful, and more productive lives. Professional Organizing is very similar to counseling in many ways. Professional Organizing focuses on the material ways that we can structure our environments to allow us to live life to the fullest. This means something different for every person, so the services that I provide and the method I will use are slightly different for everyone. Each person has a different set of needs and priorities, skills, preferences, and dreams. Together we determine what these are and make them our goals. These goals are the driving force behind everything we do together. My Approach: Many of my clients struggle with the seemingly constant accumulation of clutter around the house. With these clients, we usually determine factors contribute to the accumulation in various areas and create practical alternatives that suit all members of the family. For example, if mail always piles up on the kitchen table, we may find a nearby location for a small file drawer or mail basket as an alternative “dumping ground” until bill-paying day. Time management is another common concern, and often results in a cluttered home. These clients love the idea of a customized cleaning schedule. We work together to determine what needs to be done outside of the home each day (taking kids to school, participating in church activities, work) and what chores need to be done at home. We discuss how long the client wishes to spend on household chores each day and how often each household chore will need to be performed. I then take this information and create a personalized cleaning schedule that works with my client’s needs and preferences, including a time schedule that can be used as a daily guide to help prevent the feeling that things are totally out of control. These are just a few examples of how I often help my clients.
